How to Reduce Wedding Stress Before the Big Day

Reduce Wedding Stress

Wedding planning and the stress of it

Organizing your wedding can be a very stressful experience. I personally know many couples who got exhausted to the extent that they wish they could just skip the wedding. There are thousands of things you need for the event and the wedding dress, DJ and florist are just the tips of the iceberg. The pressure of everything being perfect is enormous – especially when we look at the superb image of the dream wedding created by the tabloids and magazines. But those sources don’t show you how to reduce wedding stress.

Don’t worry. The preparation for your big day doesn’t have to be so difficult. I’ve learned from my mistakes, and I want to share some tips.

How to reduce wedding stress and make this process smooth and painless for you

  1. Put it down on paper and put it out of your mind.
You may or may not be an organized person by nature, but trust me this is crucial. Write down everything that needs to be done in an easy to access location. Make a spreadsheet in Excel or Google Sheets and update it once you’ve completed the task. Having everything written down allows you to get wedding planning out of your mind, once you put down the pencil. You won’t be haunted by the feeling of forgetting something
  2. Focus on only one task at a time.
Dedicate some time each day to one of the tasks in your list. Context switching between tasks, can cause you to do 90% of the research and then forget the next day. Your goal is to get the best wedding planned with the least amount of time wasted planning.
  3. Stick to your decisions
Always do your best when researching and making decisions but once you reach one, move on. Don’t ponder on it and question yourself if you could have done a better job with it. There is always going to be another beautiful dress, set of earrings, or venue. Perfection is the enemy of good – you can spend too much time trying to make one aspect perfect and never get it done, or fail on other aspects.
  4. Pick the right person for each task and delegate
Don’t try to take care of everything yourself. It could be overwhelming, especially if you have a full-time job and other responsibilities. Instead, delegate to someone who’s decisions you can trust. Focus on the major important decisions, and allow others to make minor choices on their own. This will prevent you from getting bogged down with thousands of small details that don’t matter that much.
  5. Imagine everything going well
I remember nights when I just couldn’t fall asleep, thinking about all the little details that could go wrong for my wedding. Don’t make the same mistake. Think positively it really helps to keep your sanity at bay.
  6. Don’t expect everything to be perfect
That thing that went “wrong” might be the moment you two laugh about still 20 years later. Embrace the beauty of imperfection.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any additional suggestions about how to reduce wedding stress on the big day and don’t hesitate to comment below.
